About Barto Marble |
Barto Marble Company was opened in January 1976, by the late Anthony Bartolotta to serve the New Orleans metro market in a relatively new industry - "Cultured Marble". The Cultured Marble casting process was developed in the early 1960's by combining a polymer resin with calcium carbonate (marble dust) to form a thick matrix and poured onto molds of glass. But it was a mold maker in California in 1967 that created a mold to cast cultured marble over a "unibowl" that resulted in a bathroom vanity top, bowl, and backsplash all in one piece. This and other new molds for bath use launched the new industry into prominence. By 1980, there were more than 800 manufacturers of Cultured Marble in the U.S., organized under what is now known as the ICPA (International Cast Polymer Association). In 1984, Barto Marble relocated to our present location - 7201 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA, setting up a state of the art automated mixing system to handle a growing business. By 1993, a new 3,000 square feet building allowed further expansion into another new business opportunity - "Solid Surface" products. "CORARA" became our own brand entry into the new industry, making tops suitable for kitchen use. Corara is polyester based solid surface combining resin, aluminum trihydrate, and chips made of real stone or colored polyester to create a hard, scratch resistant material, with a shine that goes all the way through…cut it with a knife or burn it with a cigarette and "you" can just sand and buff the mark away. After the flood of 1995 and the loss of our founder, George Roberts took the reigns as sole owner. Mr. Roberts has worked hard to make sure that Barto produces the best cast polymer products we can. Improved equipment, new casting machines, new molds, better training, and a new Corara Showroom have all come under George's watch. All key personnel have become official "Certified Composite Technicians" as part of the ICPA continuing education program. Although the Katrina disaster and many other changes have come along in our history, Barto Marble has and always will strive to serve our customers with the utmost integrity and service. |
